Lecavalier lifts Lightning over Blackhawks in OT

Nov 5, 2011 - 5:23 AM Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Vincent Lecavalier scored with 53.7 seconds left in overtime, lifting the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 5-4 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.

Lecavalier's game-winner came on an easy one-timer next to the net set up by Martin St. Louis' pass across the crease.

The game's other eight goals came during a thrill-a-minute second period, including Steven Stamkos' fourth career hat trick for Tampa Bay.

Brett Connolly also scored for the Lightning, while Dwayne Roloson made 28 saves. Roloson gave up four goals on nine shots in the second period, but Tampa Bay survived to win for the fifth time in seven games.

"Once we get settled in," said Stamkos. "We're a tough team to play against. They didn't get much in the third period and we had some chances. It's a good team win. Hopefully that builds some confidence."

Patrick Sharp scored twice in the second period for Chicago and Marian Hossa and Daniel Carcillo added goals. The Blackhawks, who had a three-game winning streak snapped, played their third straight overtime game.

Ray Emery allowed five goals on 32 shots, including four on 14 shots in the second period.

"As a goalie, four goals in a period is inexcusable," said Emery. "I'm not happy about it."

The Blackhawks earned a point and lead the Western Conference with 19, one more than idle Edmonton. They are tied with idle Pittsburgh and Toronto for the NHL lead.

Roloson made 15 saves and Emery had eight in a scoreless first period before all heck broke loose in the second.

Stamkos scored on a rebound just 15 seconds into the middle period -- the first of eight combined goals by both teams in the frame.

Stamkos also had the last two goals in the outburst, tying the game at 4-4 in the final minute with a one-timer on the power play that was set up by St. Louis' cross-ice pass.

In between, Sharp had two of Chicago's four goals, including a tip-in that gave the Blackhawks a 4-2 lead before Stamkos tied it.

Tampa Bay's other goal during the period was scored by Connolly, who was standing on the goal line for a tap-in that was reviewed and upheld.

Hossa, who was undefended on a snap shot from the left side, and Carcillo's goals came during a breakneck span when six goals were scored in just 7:07.

The goaltenders combined to make 14 saves in the third period and time was running out in the extra session before the puck was saved near the right boards, ending up with St. Louis sending the pass across to Lecavalier.

Game Notes

This was the only meeting of the season between the teams. Tampa Bay won both games last year, but Chicago is now 10-4-3 in the last 17 games between the two clubs.
