Glencross leads Calgary past Chicago
Nov 19, 2011 - 6:35 AM Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Curtis Glencross tallied two goals and an assist as the Calgary Flames defeated the Chicago Blackhawks, 5-2.Lee Stempniak, Rene Bourque and Paul Byron also scored for Calgary, which got two assists from Olli Jokinen.
Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 30-of-32 shots in the win.
"I thought we were very solid tonight. Our determination, our focus, everything you need to do to be successful, we had it tonight," Flames head coach Brent Sutter said.
Viktor Stalberg and Marian Hossa netted goals for the Blackhawks, who saw their four-game win streak snapped.
Corey Crawford made 21 saves in the loss.
Stempniak put the Flames on the board 5:41 into the first period as he whizzed a wrister past Crawford from the right circle.
But Stalberg responded as the Blackhawks tied it just 1:04 later. Jonathan Toews skated in down the right wing and made a beautiful backhanded feed to Stalberg, who finished from the slot.
The Flames opened the second period with a pair of goals in the first minute.
Bourque tallied 40 seconds in on a wrister from the left circle, and Byron netted a backhander 17 seconds later to make it a 3-1 game.
The Blackhawks answered a few minutes later on a 4-on-3 power play when Duncan Keith made a cross-ice feed to Hossa, who one-timed his shot into the upper- right corner from inside the right circle.
But the Flames regained their two-goal advantage midway through the period when Jay Bouwmeester passed to Glencross from the right point, and Glencross finished from a tight angle in the left circle to make it 4-2.
Glencross added his second tally 6:46 into the third period to conclude the scoring.
"When you play Calgary it's about working hard and making it simple and we didn't do that tonight," Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville said.
Game Notes
Calgary hits the road to take on Columbus on Monday, while the Blackhawks travel to Edmonton for game three of their six-game road trip on Saturday.
