Rangers double up Caps
Nov 26, 2011 - 12:29 AM Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Ruslan Fedotenko scored two goals and the New York Rangers beat the Washington Capitals for the fourth straight time, 6-3, on Friday.Marian Gaborik, Artem Anisimov, Brian Boyle and Brad Richards also scored for the Rangers, who snapped a two-game losing streak to win for the eighth time in their last 10.
Henrik Lundqvist made 18 saves and New York went 2-2 on its four-game road trip.
Alex Ovechkin, Troy Brouwer and John Carlson scored for the Capitals, who went 2-1 on a three-game homestand. They are just 3-6-1 in their last 10. Michal Neuvirth allowed six goals on 33 shots in the loss.
After losing four in a row to Washington, the Rangers have won the past four meetings by a combined score of 21-4.
Derek Stepan led a 2-on-1, sliding a pass across the slot to Gaborik for a one-timer 3:37 into the second period, sparking a run of three straight goals for the Rangers in less than five minutes
Anisimov's wrist shot on a power play and Fedotenko's wrister from the slot on a turnover made it 3-0, but the Capitals struck back with a pair of goals. Brouwer scored on a rebound in front and Carlson's power play goal came on a slap shot from the point.
Boyle gave the Rangers a 4-2 lead before the end of the period, scoring after Neuvirth lost control of the puck, and Richards pushed the lead back to three on a rush 4:15 into the third period.
Ovechkin scored less than two minutes later, rifling a shot past Lundqvist's after racing up the left boards, but Fedotenko made it 6-3 with 8:20 left and the Rangers held on.
Game Notes
Friday's game was the first of four meetings between the teams this season...The Rangers were just 1-for-5 on the power play. The Caps went 1- for-4.
