Flames pull away from Wild

Nov 28, 2011 - 2:21 AM St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - T.J. Brodie's go-ahead tally midway through the first period turned out to be the game-winner as the Calgary Flames defeated the Minnesota Wild, 5-2.

Mark Giordano, Jarome Iginla, Lee Stempniak and Alex Tanguay also recorded goals for the Flames, who snapped a three-game losing skid.

"Everybody responded, nobody's happy where we're at in the standings, nobody's giving up," Iginla said. "It's a boost that we need."

Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 19-of-21 shots in the victory.

Cal Clutterbuck and Nick Johnson scored for Minnesota, which has lost two straight following a five-game winning streak.

Niklas Backstrom stopped just 5-of-8 shots before being pulled in the first period. Josh Harding made 25 saves the rest of the way.

Clutterbuck got in close on Backstrom, deked and wristed it past him on the power-play to give the Wild a quick lead 1:57 into the game.

Giordano tied it up at 4:37 with a wrister just left of the crease, and Stempniak gave Calgary the lead 1:17 later as he flew down the right wing and wristed his shot from the right circle past Backstrom.

Johnson squared things up with a well-placed wrister into the upper-left corner from the right circle just over a minute later.

Brodie's go-ahead goal came 39 seconds later, as he took a pass from Matt Stajan from the right corner and flicked a backhander past Backstrom from the right circle.

The Flames added a pair of goals in the third period to give themselves some breathing room.

Tanguay tallied on an unassisted wrister outside of the left circle, and Iginla took a Curtis Glencross feed from the left corner and finished from the crease.

Game Notes

The Wild play the final game of their six-game homestand against the Lightning on Monday, while the Flames go home to take on Nashville on Tuesday...Iginla's goal was his seventh of the season.
