Preds edge Canucks on Fisher's late tally

Dec 2, 2011 - 7:18 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Mike Fisher scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner with 1:16 remaining, as Nashville took a 6-5 victory over Vancouver on Thursday.

Colin Wilson added a goal and two assists for the Predators, who concluded their five-game road trip with a victory.

Pekka Rinne made 13 saves before Anders Lindback entered, stopping 19-of-19 shots to get the win.

"In the end it was good goaltending and some timely goals. That was it," said Nashville coach Barry Trotz. "We'll get out of here very, very quiet because we didn't deserve to win."

Cody Hodgson, Daniel Sedin, Aaron Volpatti, Alexandre Burrows and Jannik Hansen all scored for the Canucks, who saw their five-game win streak come to an end.

Cory Schneider was pulled after allowing three goals on five shots. He was relived by Roberto Luongo, who made 12 saves in the loss.

"It was an up-and-down game," said Henrik Sedin. "I thought we played solid ... but they made some really nice plays."

The Predators, who finished their road trip with a 2-3 mark, took an early 2-0 lead, as Wilson assisted on David Legwand's one-time slap shot and Fisher lit the lamp with a backhand 8:16 into the first.

Hodgson made it a 2-1 game less than two minutes later off a give-and-go from Chris Higgins.

Just 10 seconds before the end of the period, Shea Weber beat Schneider for a 3-1 advantage.

Schneider, who had been vital during the Canucks' five-game win streak, gave way to regular netminder Luongo.

Vancouver then scored four straight goals to claim the advantage.

Sedin began the surge with a power play goal early in the second, banking a shot off Rinne.

Volpatti tied the game with a wrister less than a minute later.

At the 8:16 mark of the second, Burrows netted his ninth goal of the season for the 4-3 advantage.

Hansen capped the surge with a slap shot tally minutes later, marking the end of Rinne's night.

The Predators then reeled off three unanswered goals and Lindback stood tall in relief to grab the win.

Jordin Tootoo scored off a centering pass from Matt Halischuk at the 16:09 mark of the second, and Wilson tied the game with a backhand shortly before the intermission.

With time dwindling in regulation, Martin Erat beat a pair of defenders on the rush and fed a pass to Fisher, who buried a backhand for the game winner.

Game Notes

This was the second of four meeting between the two teams. The Canucks won the first meeting 5-2...This was the squads' second meeting since Vancouver ousted Nashville in the second round of last season's Stanley Cup Playoffs.
