Flames continue domination of Avalanche
Dec 9, 2011 - 5:24 AM Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Olli Jokinen scored a tiebreaking goal with 4:50 remaining in the third period, as the Calgary Flames resumed their mastery of the Colorado Avalanche with a 3-2 win at the Saddledome.Lee Stempniak and Curtis Glencross also scored in the third while Colorado forward T.J. Galiardi served a double-minor for high-sticking.
Miikka Kiprusoff made just 16 saves for Calgary, which has won the first four meetings with Colorado this season and nine straight overall. The Flames have outscored the Avalanche 36-16 since a 6-5 loss on October 28, 2010.
Making his first start since November 20, Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 32 shots for the Avalanche, who have gone 0-6-1 in their last seven road games after opening the season a franchise-best 6-0-0 as the visiting club.
Trailing by a goal, the Flames tallied twice with Galiardi in the penalty box to go up 2-1. It was the second double-minor called on the Avalanche.
Brendan Morrison set up both power-play goals, feeding Stempniak for a one- timer at 6:21 and dishing out from behind the Colorado net to Glencross for a nifty redirection at 7:47.
Galiardi redeemed himself by notching the equalizer at 9:58, but the Flames moved back in front when Jarome Iginla slipped a pass across the ice from right to left and Jokinen beat Giguere high on the short side.
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Matt Duchene gathered a pass from Jan Hejda, who kept the puck in at the left point and ripped a wrister from between the circles past Kiprusoff.
