Stars down Rangers behind Bachman's shutout

Dec 14, 2011 - 4:52 AM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Richard Bachman turned aside all 34 shots fired his way to post his first career shutout and backstop Dallas to a 1-0 victory over former Stars forward Brad Richards and the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

The 24-year-old Bachman, who made his second career NHL start, posted 13 saves in each of the final two periods as the Rangers tried fervently to solve the rookie goaltender.

"I tried to just block it out and focus on the puck, but when you look back and think about the game you just had and the win it's pretty exciting," said Bachman.

Trevor Daley supplied the game's lone goal in the third period for Dallas, which improved to 2-1-0 on its five-game road trip.

Henrik Lundqvist recorded 27 saves for the Rangers, who had notched at least one point in 16 of their last 19 games (14-3-2).

"We played hard. I thought as far as the zone time we spent quite a bit of time in their zone," said New York head coach John Tortorella. "But I still don't think we generated enough offense. We had some really good chances, three or four of them, but certainly not enough sustained."

On the winning tally, Stars captain Brenden Morrow picked off a clearing attempt in the neutral zone by New York defenseman Jeff Woywitka. Morrow carried the puck across the blue line and made a drop pass to Daley at the right point.

Daley gathered a return feed from Mike Ribeiro, skated down the slot and beat Lundqvist between the pads with 4:59 remaining.

The Dallas defenseman was called for holding 17 seconds later, but the penalty-killing unit bailed Daley out.

New York, which had scored a power-play goal in eight straight home games, finished 0-for-4 with the man-advantage.
