Blue Jackets slip by Canucks in SO

Dec 14, 2011 - 3:28 AM Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Mark Letestu, Rick Nash and James Wisniewski all scored in the shootout as the Columbus Blue Jackets snapped Vancouver's four-game winning streak with a 2-1 decision.

With Columbus already holding a 2-1 edge in the shootout, Wisniewski moved in from the left and deked a few times before sneaking a shot below the pad of Roberto Luongo to seal the win.

Jeff Carter scored the lone regulation goal for Columbus, which got 30 saves from Steve Mason.

"We're just playing better as a team and he (Mason) played huge. He made some fantastic saves," Wisniewski said.

Mason exited the game with 6:46 left in regulation after his right knee bent awkwardly while he was trying to make a save on Mason Raymond. Mason spent a little over three minutes on the bench before finishing the rest of the game. His backup Curtis Sanford made one save.

Maxim Lapierre scored the only goal for the Canucks, who got 29 stops from Luongo.

"It was a hard fought point," Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault said. "That team there is a much better team than their record indicates. They got good balance, good solid coaching and they work hard."

Carter got the Blue Jackets on the board first with a power-play tally midway through the opening period. With Carter screening in front of the net, Wisniewski sent a shot in from the left circle. Luongo made the initial save, but Carter gathered the puck in the crease and beat him with a backhand.

The Canucks tied it at the 8:03 mark of the third. Chris Higgins was able to control the puck from behind the boards and flipped a backhand pass in front for LaPierre, who finished from the crease.

Game Notes

Wisniewski has six assists in his last six games...The Blue Jackets play game four of their five-game homestand on Thursday against the Kings, while the Canucks head to Carolina on Thursday to play game four of their five-game road trip.
