Jets resume homestand against Capitals

Dec 15, 2011 - 4:12 PM (Sports Network) - The Winnipeg Jets will resume a six-game homestand tonight versus the Southeast Division-rival Washington Capitals at MTS Centre.

The Jets are in the midst of playing 11 of 12 games as the host and won the opener of the homestand by a 2-1 score over the Minnesota Wild. Bryan Little scored the game-winner late in the third period and Zach Bogosian added the other goal for Winnipeg, which has won five of six games overall and five in a row at home.

Ondrej Pavelec made 34 saves for the win, helping the Jets improve to 10-4-0 at home this season.

"I thought the game was a good game, and it was nice to win that game," said Winnipeg head coach Claude Noel. "It would be tough for anybody to lose a game like that. I thought what was really good was the emotional level from both teams was real high."

Winnipeg will also welcome the Ducks, Islanders, Canadiens and Penguins to town on the residency. Little extended his goal-scoring streak to four games and has 11 tallies on the season -- all recorded in the past 16 games. He is on a seven-game points streak (5g, 4a), while Evander Kane is two goals away from 50 in his career with the Jets franchise.

In injury news for Winnipeg, centers Nik Antropov (foot) and Alexander Burmistrov (undisclosed) and defenseman Randy Jones (upper body) are listed as questionable for tonight's game.

Washington hopes to get back on track after dropping a 5-1 decision versus Philadelphia on Tuesday from the Verizon Center. Jeff Halpern scored the only goal for the Capitals, who had won two straight and three of four games prior to the lopsided loss.

Tomas Vokoun was pulled prior to the third period after allowing four goals on 21 shots. Michal Neuvirth finished up with 11 saves in relief.

"It was a terrible performance," Vokoun admitted. "Certainly not pleasant and it's unfortunate in a game like that. There's really not much to say."

The Caps will also visit Colorado on their brief road trip and are 5-8-0 away from the nation's capital this season. They are one point behind Winnipeg for second place in the division standings and 3-4-0 under new head coach Dale Hunter. Halpern has two goals and two assists in his last four games.

Winnipeg is 1-0-1 against the Capitals this season. Thursday's game is the third of six meetings between the two clubs.
