Luongo, Canucks blank Wild

Dec 20, 2011 - 7:03 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Roberto Luongo turned aside 33 shots for his first shutout of the season as the Vancouver Canucks took a 4-0 win over the Minnesota Wild.

Henrik Sedin had a goal and two assists while his brother Daniel had three helpers for the Canucks, who have won their past two.

"It was a big win for us," Henrik Sedin said.

Niklas Backstrom turned aside 29-of-33 shots in the loss for the Wild, who have dropped a season-high four straight.

The Canucks made it a 1-0 game on the power play with 1:08 to play in the first as the Sedin's worked a give-and-go with Henrik sending a long pass from the right boards to the left and Daniel sending it back to the right for the easy goal.

"I didn't like the start we had to the game," Wild head coach Mike Yeo said. "We made a few mistakes tonight and they seemed to capitalize."

Halfway through the second, Vancouver took a 2-0 lead when Daniel Sedin sent a pass from behind the net to the front, where Ryan Kesler had the easy one- timer.

With 1:59 left in the second, Daniel Sedin took a pass from his brother, made a swift move to get around his defender along the inside-right circle and slipped it over to the left, where Alexandre Burrows stuffed it in.

Luongo turned aside 22 shots in the first two periods to keep Minnesota off the board.

Jannik Hansen scored with 3:26 to play in the third to cap the scoring.

Game Notes

Vancouver hosts Detroit on Wednesday...Minnesota plays in Calgary on Tuesday...These teams had split two previous games this season...Luongo has posted 56 shutouts in his career.
