Iginla, Flames nip Wild

Dec 21, 2011 - 5:37 AM Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Jarome Iginla had a goal and an assist as the Calgary Flames edged the Minnesota Wild, 2-1, at the Saddledome.

Curtis Glencross tallied the other goal for the Flames, who snapped a four- game losing streak.

Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 29-of-30 shots for the win.

"We don't need anybody to be great, we need everyone to be good, and when everyone's good the team's great," said Flames head coach Brent Sutter.

Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored the lone goal for Minnesota and Josh Harding made 28 saves as the Wild's season-high losing streak stretched to five straight games.

The lone goal of the second period belonged to Calgary, and it provided the winning margin.

After Derek Smith's shot from the point was blocked by Harding, Iginla fought off two Wild defenders in front of the net before putting home the rebound for the game-deciding goal at the 6:02 mark.

Minnesota applied almost constant pressure in the third period and also had three power plays -- including two in the final 2:32 of regulation thanks to Calgary's Olli Jokinen -- but Kiprusoff stopped all 11 shots he faced in the frame to hang on for the victory.

"We were good enough to win that hockey game," Wild head coach Mike Yeo said. "We got away from our game and didn't execute the right way a little bit in the second period and that was the difference."

The Flames took the early lead when Glencross trailed a rush, received a pass in the slot and switched to his backhand before lifting the puck over the glove of Harding just 2:47 into the game.

But Minnesota knotted the game up less than four minutes later when Bouchard was able to clean up a rebound of a Jared Spurgeon shot from the left circle and pump it past Kiprusoff on the doorstep.
