Blues seek to end 11-game road losing streak vs. Ducks

Oct 9, 2006 - 2:30 PM St. Louis (0-1-1) at Anaheim (2-0-0) 10:05 pm EDT

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- They may have new owners and a new management group, but the St. Louis Blues are showing the same old results.

The Blues try to avoid extending a franchise record with their 12th consecutive road defeat Monday when they conclude a three-game trip against the undefeated Anaheim Ducks.

Ranked last in victories (21), road wins (9), points, (57) and goals (197) last season, the Blues were acquired by an ownership group led by former Madison Square Garden boss Dave Checketts, who hired one-time Rangers broadcaster John Davidson as team president.

Positive results have been slow in the early stages of the new campaign. After Thursday's 5-4 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks, the Blues suffered a 4-1 defeat to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

Bill Guerin and Jamal Mayers had a goal and an assist apiece against the Sharks and Martin Rucinsky netted a power-play tally in the second period against the Kings.

Despite dropping the word "Mighty" from their nickname in the offseason, the Ducks have lived up to their former moniker, joining the Sharks and the Dallas Stars with 2-0 starts in the Pacific Division.

Teemu Selanne and Dustin Penner scored goals and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov made 34 saves as Anaheim continued its recent dominance of the Phoenix Coyotes with Saturday's 2-1 victory. The Ducks are 8-0-1 in nine encounters with Phoenix.
