Varlamov, Avalanche blank Blackhawks

Jan 7, 2012 - 6:03 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Semyon Varlamov stopped 27 shots for his second shutout of the season as the surging Colorado Avalanche handed the Chicago Blackhawks a 4-0 defeat at United Center.

David Van Der Gulik, Chuck Kobasew, T.J. Galiardi and David Jones all scored for the Avalanche, who have won nine of their last 10 games.

"Tonight was a good night for us in all ends," said Galiardi. "We tried to keep the puck away from our end and get it deep in their own end. We did a pretty good job of that, I think."

Corey Crawford stopped 18 shots for the Blackhawks, who have dropped three straight for the third time this season.

"We've had a few tough losses recently," said Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville. "But not tonight. We didn't show up and we got what we deserved."

The Avs got the only goal they needed 12:57 into the game as Erik Johnson's shot from the right point was tipped in by Jones, who was providing a screen in front.

Colorado took a 2-0 lead just 1:47 into the second when Paul Stastny sent a pass from the left to the right and Galiardi was there to slam home the opportunity.

It was 3-0 seven minutes later when Gabriel Landeskog's wraparound from the right side off a turnover was stopped and Van Der Gulik was there to put home the rebound for his first goal of the season.

Kobasew scored with under two minutes to play in the game to account for the final score.
