Strong second period gets Blackhawks past Wild

Jan 13, 2012 - 9:03 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Dave Bolland scored a pair of goals and Chicago used a three-goal second period to best Minnesota, 5-2, at United Center.

Bolland, Viktor Stalberg and Jimmy Hayes tallied during the crucial stanza for the Blackhawks, who have posted consecutive three-goal wins following a four-game losing streak.

"There are times you have bumps in the road, but right now it feels like we're coming back," Bolland said.

Andrew Shaw lit the lamp and Ray Emery picked up the victory with 21 saves.

Devin Setoguchi and Kyle Brodziak netted a goal each for the Wild, who failed to build momentum from a 5-4 shootout win over San Jose on Tuesday.

Josh Harding took the loss, saddled with four goals on 21 shots in more than 36 minutes. Matt Hackett stopped all eight shots for the remainder of the game.

"We didn't come close to playing the right way," Wild head coach Mike Yeo said.

Hayes began the second by giving Chicago the lead for good at the 8:53 mark on a power play, by one-timing a Bolland feed from the left side.

It was 3-1 for the hosts just 23 seconds later, when Stalberg picked up his fourth goal in two games by slipping a shot from between the circles between Harding's pads.

The Blackhawks moved in front by a 4-1 count at 16:27 on another advantage and chased Harding from the net. Steve Montador's blast from the right point was turned aside by Harding, but poor defensive coverage allowed Bolland to slip into the slot and tap home the rebound.

Brodziak brought Minnesota within a pair at 8:56 of the third after converting a Darroll Powe rebound, but a gamble later on didn't pay off for the visitors.

Hackett was pulled for an extra skater with well over two minutes remaining, then Bolland soloed to the empty net less than a minute afterwards.

Minnesota got on the board at 6:28 of the first as Setoguchi tapped in a Marek Zidlicky rebound from inside the crease.

Chicago equalized thanks to Shaw at 11:33 when his wrister from the left circle through a screen sailed inside the near post.

Bolland, who has scored in three straight games, posted his first multi-goal effort since the season opener on October 8 against Dallas...Chicago has won both meetings with Minnesota this season and eight of 10 since the start of the 2009-10 campaign...Blackhawk forwards Marian Hossa, Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews were selected to the All-Star Game, while Wild forward Mikko Koivu was his club's lone representative to the mid-season contest...Montador posted two assists...Setoguchi, who was out of the lineup for roughly four weeks with a lower-body injury, netted his first goal since November 30.
