Senators down Sharks for first time since 2003

Jan 20, 2012 - 6:22 AM San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Craig Anderson made 36 saves and Colin Greening scored twice, as the Senators earned their first win against the Sharks in over eight years with a 4-1 decision at HP Pavilion.

Kyle Turris and Erik Karlsson also tallied for Ottawa, which had not beaten San Jose since October 18, 2003, a span of five meetings.

Antti Niemi yielded four goals on 21 shots in the Sharks' second loss in three games.

Brad Winchester scored 3:10 into the game, but the Senators, playing their third game in four nights, never flinched.

Turris' goal through traffic tied things midway through the opening period, and Karlsson wound up with the eventual game-winner on a one-timer 4:30 into the second.

With 5:10 remaining in the second, Greening let an innocuous wrister fly from above the left circle that beat Niemi.

Another wrister shot by Greening -- this one from between the circle -- essentially sealed the outcome with 9:26 remaining.

Game Notes

The Senators have won five straight on the road and are 7-0-4 in their past 11 away from Ottawa...Ottawa's Daniel Alfredsson, who was named one of the captains for the upcoming All-Star Game in Ottawa, recorded an assist.
