Kings chase Anderson, beat Senators
Jan 24, 2012 - 7:54 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Kyle Clifford had a goal and an assist while Jonathan Quick turned aside 27 shots to lift the Los Angeles Kings to a 4-1 win over the Ottawa Senators.Jack Johnson, Trevor Lewis and Willie Mitchell all scored for the Kings, who snapped a two-game slide.
"It's a big win," Clifford said. "Guys had a lot of energy coming off two losses so we definitely wanted to get 'er done tonight."
Daniel Alfredsson scored the lone goal for the Senators, who have dropped their past two games. Craig Anderson allowed four goals on 26 shots through two periods while Alex Auld stopped eight shots in the third.
The Kings scored with 4:21 to play in the first period when Mitchell threw a shot on net from the left point that sailed through a screen.
At the 11:08 mark of the second the Kings took a 2-0 lead as Clifford whacked in a puck during a scrum in front.
It was 3-0 after a power-play goal as Drew Doughty sent a pass from the top of the left circle over to the right where Johnson one-timed the puck home for his eighth of the season.
Lewis scored on a penalty shot with 33 seconds to play in the second as he skated in and waited Anderson out to the right before putting it in past his outstretched glove.
"It shouldn't have been a penalty shot," Senators head coach Paul MacLean said. "I'm not sure if it's reviewable in Toronto on that kind of a call but that's just the way it is. I think having video means to get it right, so if it's not right it should be [reviewed]. That's why you have video, to me."
Alfredsson spoiled the shutout bid 8:37 into the third with a power-play tally.
