Roy lifts Sabres over Bruins in shootout
Feb 25, 2012 - 4:57 AM Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Derek Roy scored in the fourth round of the shootout as the Buffalo Sabres took a 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins. In the fourth round, Roy faked to the backhand before lifting a shot off the right post and past Tuukka Rask. Benoit Pouliot had the final chance for Boston, but Ryan Miller made the glove save on the wrist shot for the win.
Andrej Sekera scored the lone goal of regulation while Miller stopped 35 shots for the Sabres, who have run off three straight wins.
"We were on our heels for parts of the game, but I thought we weathered it well then dug in our heels," said Buffalo head coach Lindy Ruff. "They created some real good chances that we wanted to stay away from, but I thought our guys did pretty good overall."
Zdeno Chara lit the lamp for the Bruins, who have lost three of four. Rask stopped 26 shots in the loss.
"It was a close game and they played really well," said Chara. "The goalies on both sides made some huge stops. It's just ashame that we didn't get the extra point."
Boston has not had consecutive wins since January 10 and 12, going 8-9-2 during that time.
After a scoreless first period, Buffalo scored with 5:15 left in the second on a wrist shot from Sekera, his third of the year.
The Bruins, though, tied the game 3:36 into the third period when Chara blasted a shot from the top of the right circle that beat Miller over the left shoulder.
