Final
Stars top Canucks
Mar 7, 2012 - 7:10 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Mike Ribeiro scored a pair of goals and added an assist as the Pacific Division-leading Dallas Stars topped the Vancouver Canucks, 5-2, on Tuesday at Rogers Arena.Loui Eriksson and Stephane Robidas had a goal and an assist apiece and Jamie Benn also found the back of the net for the Stars, who have won three straight and six of their last seven. Richard Bachman made 29 saves in the win and Michael Ryder added a pair of helpers for Dallas.
"We just stuck with our game plan and kept pushing forward," Ribeiro said. "It's a team concept right now, and everyone's doing the right thing."
Chris Higgins scored and added an assist and Alexander Edler also scored for the Canucks, who have dropped two straight and four of five. Roberto Luongo was touched up for four goals on 28 shots in the loss.
"It was a weird game," Luongo said. "A lot of their goals came right in the goalmouth and I don't know what to make of it."
After a scoreless first stanza in which Bachman made 10 saves and Luongo made six, Vancouver opened the scoring 6:45 into the second period.
Higgins collected a loose disc in the neutral zone and turned up ice. He gained the line on the right wing and moved to the right circle before ripping a wrist shot low to the far side past Bachman.
Dallas responded by scoring the next three goals.
Skating with the man advantage, the puck made its way out to Trevor Daley at the right point. Daley took it down the wall below the goal line and threw a centering pass in front that was tipped home by Eriksson from in close.
The Stars took the lead for good with 23 seconds to play in the second frame when Ribeiro cruised through neutral ice and went in on a 2-on-1 with Ryder. Ribeiro held the puck as long as he could before he fired a wrister past Luongo.
Dallas then made it 3-1 4:25 into the third period after Steve Ott stepped up from his point position and picked off an outlet pass in the high slot. Ott then found Benn in the left circle and he fired it home.
Edler made it a one-goal game at 7:55 after he weaved his way though a crowded neutral zone and sent a soft wrister on net that took a deflection and got past Bachman.
But, Ribeiro restored Dallas' two-goal edge at 11:11 when he rammed home a centering pass from Ryder and then Robidas capped the scoring with an empty- netter with four seconds to play.
