Kane is able to help Blackhawks nip Blues in SO

Mar 14, 2012 - 6:45 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Patrick Kane netted the lone goal in the shootout, enabling Chicago to complete its rally from an early deficit and claim a 4-3 decision over St. Louis at United Center.

Kane managed to slide a backhander between the pads of Jaroslav Halak to open the shootout. Corey Crawford then stopped T.J. Oshie, Andy McDonald and David Perron to cap the win.

"That was a really fun game and it's great to win one of those, especially at home," said Kane. "I think the crowd got us pumped up when we got down there by a couple. Good game and a big two points."

Andrew Brunette, Viktor Stalberg and Brent Seabrook tallied in regulation for the Blackhawks, winners in five of seven.

Ray Emery started in net, but was removed after allowing three goals on six shots in the first period. Crawford ended with 18 stops.

Jamie Langenbrunner, McDonald and Patrik Berglund scored for the Blues, whose five-game win streak came to an end.

Halak played well in defeat, making 43 saves.

"We are not checking well at all for a consistent period because we're not managing the puck properly," Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock said. "When you're not managing the puck properly it ends up burying you."

Brunette put the hosts on the board before three minutes were played, but St. Louis struck back with three before the end of the first.

Langenbrunner scored at 3:50 on a long shot from the right point near the boards, then McDonald made it 2-1 at 6:49 on a wrister from the left circle, and Berglund doubled the edge one second shy of four minutes remaining on a tip of a Barret Jackman offering.

Stalberg had the hosts' second tally of the contest deflect off his shin at the 14:13 mark of the middle period. Marcus Kruger threw the initial shot on net, which bounced off Halak and then the goal scorer. A brief review confirmed there was no kicking motion.

Halak flashed the pad to stop Stalberg on an open chance from the left side six minutes into the third, but the Blackhawks tied the game on a power play less than two minutes after on Seabrook's point blast.

Game Notes

Chicago improved to 5-4 in the shootout this season, and St. Louis fell to 4-7...Stalberg hadn't scored since February 18, a span of 11 games...Marian Hossa totaled two assists for the Blackhawks...Langenbrunner posted his first goal since February 3.
