Hiller, Ducks blank Red Wings

Mar 15, 2012 - 5:09 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Jonas Hiller stopped 23 shots for his fourth shutout of the season as Anaheim toppled Detroit, 4-0, at Honda Center.

Kyle Palmieri scored twice while Teemu Selanne and Bobby Ryan also lit the lamp for the Ducks, who snapped a three-game slide.

"We played well tonight and we were rewarded with a win," said Hiller.

Joey MacDonald was charged with all four goals on 24 shots for the Red Wings, who have dropped five of the last six games.

"We turned the puck over too much in this game," said Detroit head coach Mike Babcock. "This is a test to see how tough we are because we're struggling right now."

Detroit sits in the fourth spot in the Western Conference with 91 points, two more than Nashville while Anaheim faces an uphill climb as it is nine points back of Colorado for the final playoff spot with three teams in front.

After a scoreless first period, the Ducks took a 1-0 lead on Selanne's 1,400th point when he was able to jam the puck in during a scrum in front.

It was a 2-0 game seven minutes later as Palmieri stole the puck from Brendan Smith near the Detroit net and was able to lift a backhander in.

Ryan scored his 26th of the season with 1:05 to play in the second off a big rebound at the right circle that he slapped home.

Palmieri scored his second of the game and third of the season when he got behind the defense and shifted to the backhand before sliding the puck home just 1:22 into the third.

Detroit wraps up its four-game road trip, which it is 0-3-0 on, in San Jose on Saturday...The Ducks host the Kings on Friday...Anaheim was able to salvage the season series after dropping the first three games against Detroit...Hiller has 15 shutouts in his career.
