Ward, Hurricanes blank Blues

Mar 16, 2012 - 3:01 AM Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Cam Ward stopped 40 shots for his fourth shutout of the season as the Carolina Hurricanes edged the St. Louis Blues, 2-0.

Chad LaRose and Jeff Skinner each had a goal for the Hurricanes, who snapped a two-game losing streak.

"It certianly means a lot to me because I'm very fortunate to be doing what I'm doing," said Ward, who notched his 200th win in the game. "I just want to keep moving forward and hopefully win another 200."

Brian Elliott allowed both goals on 30 shots for the Blues, who have dropped their last two.

Despite the loss, St. Louis is still firmly in control in the Western Conference with 98 points, six more than Vancouver. Also, the Blues hold a three-point lead over the Rangers for the top spot in the NHL.

The first goal of the game didn't come until the 12:08 mark of the third when LaRose got the puck behind the St. Louis net and used a wraparound from the left side that snuck past Elliott.

Skinner sealed the win with 2:38 to play when he got the puck in his own end and skated down the left wing. He had the puck poked away from him, but got it back and snapped it in from the slot for his 20th of the season.

Ward turned aside 25 shots in the first two period while Elliott made 19 saves over the same time.
