Final
Fisher, Predators top Ducks
Mar 19, 2012 - 3:11 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Mike Fisher scored the winner in the third period as the Nashville Predators took a 3-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks.David Legwand had a goal and an assist while Patric Hornqvist also scored for the Predators, who snapped a two-game slide and with 92 points are tied with Detroit for the fourth spot in the Western Conference. Anders Linback made 30 saves in the win.
Nashville holds the fourth spot for now thanks to tiebreakers and both teams have 10 games to play.
"This was a big win for us," said Legwand. "We need all the points we can get right now to get as good a spot in the playoffs as possible."
Devante Smith-Pelly scored the lone goal while Jonas Hiller gave up two goals on 26 shots for the Ducks, who have dropped five of six and have little chance of making the playoffs at this point.
"We outshot them in the first two periods, but that early goal in the third deflated us," said Smith-Pelly. "We know our situation and have to keep competing. There's also jobs at stake here."
Anaheim, which has nine games to play, is 11 points back of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
The Ducks scored 7:32 into the first while shorthanded on a 2-on-1 break that saw Ryan Getzlaf send the puck from the slot to the left circle where Smith- Pelly one-timed it home.
After the middle stanza passed scoreless, the Predators tied the game 1:19 into the third when Legwand sent a pass from the left point to the slot where a cutting Hornqvist roofed it down low.
The Predators then took the lead halfway through the third when Ryan Suter one-timed a shot from the left circle that was stopped, but Fisher was there to jam in the rebound.
Legwand sealed the win with an empty-netter on the power play with 17 seconds to play.
