Bruins slip past Ducks
Mar 26, 2012 - 3:51 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - It wasn't hard to tell what Bruce Boudreau thought of the call that might have cost his team a point. If you missed the Anaheim Ducks coach screaming from the bench Sunday after a third period goal was waived off against the Boston Bruins because of skater interference, Boudreau's postgame comments made it clear he thought his team was hosed.
"It was a [expletive] call. There was no explanation," he said. "What can I say? It cost us the game and even one point is very important to us."
Marty Turco had 25 saves in his first win for the Bruins, a 3-2 squeaker over the Ducks that finished amid controversy.
Hubbub followed what appeared to be a tying goal by Anaheim's Matt Beleskey's from the left circle in the last period, which would have made it 2-2.
But it was waived off because Andrew Cogliano was in the crease, standing in front of Turco as the puck sailed past him.
Afterward, the NHL cited a rule saying it's up to the referee to determine if a player who is well inside the crease is impairing a goaltender's ability to make a save.
"It was the right call," said Turco, who was picked up by Boston earlier this month and earned his first win since Feb. 1, 2011 with Chicago.
"If he was just inside the paint and not anywhere near me, it might have been different. He was at least halfway in [the crease]. ... It's good to get one going your way."
Brian Rolston scored Boston's third goal minutes later and Lubomir Visnovsky drew the Ducks within 3-2 with 2:29 remaining, but they could never find the equalizer.
Zdeno Chara and Benoit Pouliot also scored goals for the Bruins, No. 2 in the Eastern Conference standings, who won their second game in a row.
Teemu Selanne had a power play goal for Anaheim while Jonas Hiller gave up three goals on 25 shots. The Ducks had a two-game winning streak stopped and are 11 points out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference with six games left.
Chara gave Boston a 1-0 lead on a shot he flipped on net from inside the blue line that somehow made it through to the back of the net 4:37 into the second period.
Pouliot made it 2-0 just 82 seconds later on a wrister from the left circle and Selanne scored Anaheim's first goal 3:12 after that on a slap shot.
Rolston's goal at 13:06 of the third period came on a 2-on-1 rush with Chris Kelly, who got his second assist on the play. Visnovsky scored from the slot after a flurry in the Boston zone.
