Ducks seek to extend series win streak over Oilers

Apr 1, 2012 - 1:34 PM (Sports Network) - The Anaheim Ducks would like to treat their home fans to one more victory this season. A matchup with the Edmonton Oilers makes that a definite possibility.

The Ducks go for a sixth straight victory over the Oilers this evening in their final home game of the regular season.

Anaheim holds a decent 21-17-2 record at home this season, but fell to 12-17-9 as the guest with last night's 4-0 setback to Phoenix. It marked the seventh time this season that the Ducks were shut out and it was their sixth loss in their past seven road games.

The Coyotes' Mike Smith was busy, stopping all 44 shots faced, while the Ducks started backup Jeff Deslauriers and he allowed four goals on 29 shots faced.

"It was one of those nights were we weren't going to beat that guy," Anaheim head coach Bruce Boudreau said of Smith.

The Ducks will end their regular season with a three-game swing through Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary and will try to get their offense back on track tonight. That might not be a problem given that they have outscored the Oilers 9-2 over a pair of victories this season.

Corey Perry is pacing Anaheim with four goals versus Edmonton this year, while Ryan Getzlaf has tallied four assists. Bobby Ryan and Jason Blake have a pair of goals each and Jonas Hiller came up with a 33-save shutout in a 5-0 win at Edmonton on Jan. 13.

The Ducks have won 11 of their past 13 overall versus the Oilers and four of the past five played at Anaheim.

Shawn Horcoff and Jordan Eberle have Edmonton's goals versus Anaheim this season and Eberle had his club's only goal in its last trip to the ice. The forward's team-leading 33rd goal of the season was all Edmonton got in a 4-1 setback to the visiting Los Angeles Kings.

Eberle also leads the Oilers with 41 assists and 74 points, while rookie Ryan Nugent-Hopkins logged his 50th point of the campaign with an assist on Eberle's goal. Nikolai Khabibulin gave up all four goals on 32 shots in Edmonton's second straight loss.

"There's not much you can say right now," said Oilers head coach Tom Renney. "They were heavier, stronger and more determined than we were. They did all the things that we need to incorporate into our game."

Edmonton will play three of its final four games on the road and is 13-21-4 as the visiting club this season. The Oilers' Ladislav Smid (head/neck), Jeff Petry (facial laceration) and Theo Peckham (concussion) did not travel to Anaheim.
