Rangers try to bounce back from first loss of season

NEW YORK (Ticker) - After suffering their first loss of the season, the New York Rangers try to respond properly when they face the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.

The Rangers fell, 4-2, on Tuesday in the back end of a home-and-home series with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Offseason free-agent signee Brendan Shanahan continued to produce offensively, scoring his third goal of the campaign. Defenseman Thomas Pock also tallied and Henrik Lundqvist had 20 saves for New York, which was victimized for three goals by Philadelphia in the second period.

The Penguins also are coming off their first setback of the season, a 2-0 shortcoming to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

Marc-Andre Fleury turned away 24 shots for Pittsburgh, which had just one shot on goal in the second session.

The Penguins are 12-for-12 on penalty kills on the young season.

New York posted a 5-2-1 mark against Pittsburgh during the 2005-06 campaign.
