Senators replace struggling Gerber with Emery against Flames
Oct 12, 2006 - 1:09 PM Calgary (1-2-0) at Ottawa (1-2-0) 7:30 pm EDTOTTAWA (Ticker) - The Ottawa Senators acquired goaltender Martin Gerber in the offseason hoping he would solidify them between the pipes.
But so far Gerber has struggled, so the Senators turn to Ray Emery when they host the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.
Gerber has struggled in both of his appearances, going 1-2-0 with a 3.78 goals-against average and a lowly .878 save percentage.
The Senators have lost back-to-back games to Toronto and Buffalo while getting outscored, 10-3. A reason the talented Senators have underachieved is ineptitude on the power play - Ottawa is 1-for-19 this season and scoreless in 13 attempts at home.
Calgary opened the season by splitting a home-and-home series with Northwest Division rival Edmonton, but dropped a 4-1 decision to San Jose on Monday in its last outing. Alex Tanguay scored the Flames' lone goal on the power play with three minutes left.
Goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 22-of-26 shots. In three starts, Kiprusoff is 1-2-0 with a solid 2.73 GAA but a weak .886 save percentage.
No one has shouted yet.
