Blues seek first win in home opener
Oct 12, 2006 - 1:23 PM Boston (1-2-0) at St Louis (0-2-1) 8:00 pm EDTST. LOUIS (Ticker) - The St. Louis Blues return home after a three-game road trip to open the season in search of their first victory when they host the Boston Bruins on Thursday.
The Blues opened the season with a 5-4 overtime loss against San Jose on October 5, absorbed a 4-1 setback to Los Angeleson Saturday and dropped a 2-0 contest to Anaheim on Monday.
St. Louis goaltender Curtis Sanford stopped 32-of-34 shots in Monday's loss while the Blues went 0-for-5 on the power play.
The Bruins' season started with an 8-3 loss to Florida on Friday, but they rebounded with a 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay on Saturday. Boston, which is in the midst of a season-opening five-game road trip, was denied a second straight victory when it dropped a 4-1 decision to the Atlanta Thrashers on Wednesday.
P.J. Axelsson scored the Bruins' lone goal at 5:14 of the second period. Boston went 1-for-8 on the power play.
One of three clubs that has not won a game, St. Louis has only five goals this season.
