Blackhawks, Predators meet in early season rematch
Oct 12, 2006 - 1:33 PM Nashville (0-2-0) at Chicago (1-1-0) 8:30 pm EDTCHICAGO (Ticker) - The Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators meet for the second time this season on Thursday, but they will be hard-pressed to top their last matchup.
One week ago, Chicago rallied for a wild 8-6 triumph in the season opener for both teams. Martin Havlat scored two goals and added two assists to lift the Blackhawks while goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin got the win despite stopping only 34-of-40 shots.
David Legwand led Nashville with two goals and an assist, but netminder Tomas Vokoun stopped just 25-of-32 shots.
But the Blackhawks could not produce a second straight win to open the season, falling to Columbus on Saturday, 5-4. Havlat led Chicago with a goal and an assist while Michal Handzus had three assists.
Chicago boasts the league's second-best power play, converting 44.4 percent (4-for-9) of their opportunities.
The Predators lost, 6-5, to Minnesota on Saturday and have surrendered 14 goals in two games. Steve Sullivan led Nashville with a goal and two assists, but Vokoun again was shaky, allowing the six goals on 34 shots.
Nashville also surrendered five power-play tallies on eight attempts.
