Sabres visit Red Wings, look to remain unbeaten

Oct 13, 2006 - 1:05 PM Buffalo (3-0-0) at Detroit (2-1-0) 7:00 pm EDT

DETROIT (Ticker) - After getting off to a perfect start, the Buffalo Sabres must contend with the Detroit Red Wings' explosive offense.

The Sabres look to remain undefeated Friday when they meet the Red Wings for the first time in nearly three years.

The Sabres have gotten off to their best start since the strike-shortened 1993-94 season. With a win, they will start a campaign with four consecutive victories for the first time since they opened the 1974-75 season with eight straight wins.

It will not be easy against a Detroit offense that hit its stride in its last contest. The Red Wings were held to three goals in their first two games, but broke out Wednesday in a 9-2 rout of the Phoenix Coyotes.

Defenseman Mathieu Schneider recorded his second career hat trick and Henrik Zetterberg added a goal and an assist for the Red Wings, who produced their most goals since 1996.

Jason Pominville scored the decisive goal and Martin Biron made 34 saves to lift the Buffalo to a 4-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators in the Sabres' last contest on Saturday.

Former Buffalo goaltender Dominik Hasek, who played with the Sabres from 1992-93 to 2000-01, will be facing his former team for the fifth time. The two-time Hart Trophy winner is 2-2 against Buffalo, including a shootout loss on February 4 when he was with Ottawa.
