Predators chase Elliott, rout Blues in St. Louis

Feb 6, 2013 - 5:58 AM St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Martin Erat had a goal and two assists and Colin Wilson added three helpers to help the Nashville Predators in a 6-1 rout of St. Louis.

Ryan Ellis had a goal and an assist while Kevin Klein, Nick Spaling, Rich Clune and Gabriel Bourque all scored for the Predators, who have won their past three games. Pekka Rinne turned aside 31 shots in the win.

"That was huge for our team because I think a lot of guys on our team were squeezing the stick too tight," said Clune. "It was good to get all the guys out there contributing and this was a solid effort from everyone."

Alex Pietrangelo scored the lone goal of the game for the Blues, who have dropped two straight for the first time this season.

"They checked and were a step and a half ahead of us that whole period," said St. Louis head coach Ken Hitchcock. "They were really solid in that period and we weren't ready for that level of play."

Brian Elliott was pulled near the midpoint of the second period after giving up four goals on 11 shots. Jake Allen stopped 6-of-8 shots in relief.

The first period belonged to Nashville as the team scored three times in the frame to take control.

Just 2:10 in on the power play, Ellis held the puck to the left of the net and tried to send it across the goalmouth, but it deflected off the stick of Pietrangelo and went into the net for a 1-0 lead.

The next goal came at the 15:53 mark when a slap shot from the slot by Wilson was stopped, but it trickled behind Elliott and Clune slammed it home.

Inside the final minute of play, Roman Josi slapped a shot from the left point that was stopped and Brandon Yip took it behind the net. He tried a wraparound from the left side and Spaling shot it home for a 3-0 advantage.

Goals from Klein and Bourque at the 9:09 and 10:09 marks of the second, respectively, made it a 5-0 game before Pietrangelo scored on the power play to get St. Louis on the board with 6:51 to play in the middle frame.

Erat scored on a rebound chance from in front with 3:26 remaining to finish the scoring in the game.
