Panthers try to continue home success vs. Lightning

Oct 13, 2006 - 1:23 PM Tampa Bay (1-2-0) at Florida (2-1-1) 7:30 pm EDT

SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) - The Florida Panthers hope to continue their success against the Tampa Bay Lightning at the BankAtlantic Center when they open a home-and-home series Friday.

The Panthers have won six of their last seven meetings with the Lightning here.

Olli Jokinen scored two goals - one shorthanded - and added two assists and Gary Roberts tallied twice as the Panthers snapped a two-game skid with a 6-3 triumph over the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday.

Goaltender Alex Auld made 32 saves and Stephen Weiss had two assists for Florida, which has converted five of its 10 power-play opportunities at home this season.

The Lightning on Monday suffered their second straight shortcoming, a 1-0 setback to the Atlanta Thrashers. Netminder Marc Denis stopped 18 shots for Tampa Bay, which is 1-for-19 with the man advantage, including 0-for-12 in its brief skid.

The Panthers captured six of the eight meetings overall vs. the Lightning last season. They conclude the set Saturday at Tampa Bay.
