Sharks finish three-game road trip against Canucks
Oct 13, 2006 - 1:29 PM San Jose (3-1-0) at Vancouver (2-1-1) 10:00 pm EDTVANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) - The San Jose Sharks try to rebound from their first defeat of the season when they finish a three-game road trip Friday against the Vancouver Canucks.
San Jose had won its first three games before dropping a 6-4 contest to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.
Jonathan Cheechoo registered a rarity, getting a natural hat trick with two goals to close the first period and scoring the opening tally of the second session. But after giving the Sharks a 3-1 lead, the team could not sustain the advantage.
Joe Thornton had three assists while Mark Smith had two for the Sharks, who went 3-for-10 on the power play.
San Jose goaltender Evgeni Nabokov struggled against the Oilers, allowing six goals on 32 shots.
The Canucks to rebound from a tough 2-1 shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday. Taylor Pyatt scored Vancouver's goal in regulation while Markus Naslund and Brendan Morrison converted in the shootout.
The Canucks were blanked in four power-play opportunities and are just 3-for-17 (17.6 percent) with the extra skater this season. San Jose has been better on the power play than Vancouver so far, going 6-for-20 (30 percent).
