Pens visit Sabres eyeing a third straight win

Feb 17, 2013 - 1:08 PM (Sports Network) - After a rare offensive outburst by Craig Adams lifted Pittsburgh to a victory last time out, the Penguins will try to make it three wins in a row on Sunday afternoon in a road contest with the Buffalo Sabres.

Adams netted a pair of goals in Friday's 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets, scoring with 3:19 left in the first period before capping his fifth career multi-goal game with an empty-net tally.

The goals were the first of the season for Adams and gave him his first two- goal game since Oct. 13, 2006 while with Carolina. The 35-year-old winger has 48 goals in 766 career games.

"If I had more nights like this, I'd make a better living," said Adams. "It's fun. Everybody likes to score goals."

Adams helped the Penguins win for the seventh time in nine games and improve to 7-2-0 on the road this season. They are also 9-3 when scoring first this season.

"I think (Adams) played a highlight game tonight," said Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma.

James Neal added a power-play goal and Marc-Andre Fleury came up with 25 saves in the win.

The Sabres also got some needed scoring on Friday as four different players had goals in a 4-2 victory over the Boston Bruins. Tyler Myers and Drew Stafford both had a goal and an assist, while Christian Ehrhoff had the winner during a three-goal third period.

Myers scored his second goal of the season and first since Jan. 20. The former Calder Trophy winner also assisted on Cody Hodgson's third-period marker.

"We know what he can bring," Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said of Myers. "When he's skating and moving, he's a tough man to keep track of. I thought his energy in the game was maybe as good as I've seen all season."

Stafford, meanwhile, scored his first goal of the season, while Ryan Miller made 30 saves to help the Sabres snap a two-game slide that started with a 3-1 home setback versus the Bruins last Sunday. They were also shut out 2-0 in Ottawa on Tuesday, but rebounded to improve to 2-5-1 when trailing after two periods this season.

Buffalo defenseman Andrej Sekera sustained a lower body injury near the midway point of the third and had to be helped off the ice after a hit from Boston's Shawn Thornton. His status for this game is unknown.

This is the first of three meetings between the Pens and Sabres this season. Pittsburgh has won 10 of the last 13 encounters overall and five of the last seven in Buffalo.
