Final
Anderson, Sens down Isles
Feb 20, 2013 - 5:45 AM Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Craig Anderson posted 37 saves as the Ottawa Senators took a 3-1 win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday.Colin Greening, Dave Dziurzynski and Andre Benoit each had a goal for the Senators, who have won their past two games.
"It's really important to get these wins when we're at home," said Greening. "We had a good plan going out there tonight and everyone stuck to it."
Travis Hamonic scored the lone goal of the game for the Islanders, who were coming off a 7-0 loss to the Flyers on Monday afternoon. Rick DiPietro gave up all three goals on 26 shots in the loss.
"At this point in a shortened season you need points and you need results," said DiPietro. "But I thought we played a really good game here tonight, and if we keep playing like that we'll get the wins we need."
The first period passed without a goal as DiPietro made seven stops and Anderson turned away eight, but the Senators took a 1-0 lead at the 6:01 mark of the second.
Holding the puck behind the Ottawa net, Daniel Alfredsson sent the puck out front and Stephane Da Costa got a stick on it before Greening shoved it in for a power-play marker and his second goal of the season.
The Senators took a 2-0 lead 2 1/3 minutes later when Jakob Silfverberg jumped on a loose puck behind the net and brought it out the left side. From the circle, he sent it back to the right point and Benoit blasted a one-timer in for his first NHL goal.
New York cut its deficit in half at the 2:44 mark of the third when a backhand pass by Marty Reasoner from the left circle went to the slot and Hamonic buried it for his second of the year.
Dziurzynski, though, sealed the game with 2:35 to play on his first NHL goal as his wrister beat DiPietro.
