Bruins top Panthers for another road win
Feb 25, 2013 - 1:35 AM Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Tuukka Rask made 34 saves and the Boston Bruins used a balanced offensive attack to beat the Florida Panthers, 4-1, on Sunday.Daniel Paille, Milan Lucic, Zdeno Chara and Chris Kelly scored for the Bruins, who improved to 3-1-0 on a five-game road trip. Boston is now 7-1-1 on the road this season.
The Bruins (11-2-2) are off to their best start since the 1976-77 season.
Tomas Kopecky scored the lone goal for the Panthers, who have lost seven of eight. Jacob Markstrom stopped 28-of-31 shots.
The Bruins drew first blood at the 7:57 mark of the first period. Following David Krejci's faceoff win, Lucic beat Markstrom with a shot from the top of the left circle.
At the 13:52 mark, Chara used a nice spin move before beating Markstrom with a backhander.
"What can I say? It's a good hockey play and a good shot," Markstrom said. "I didn't think he was going to score, but he did. That's a good goal."
Chara said that he didn't plan the spin-o-rama.
"I think it just happened," Chara said. "Obviously you can't really plan that kind of a goal, those kind of moves. My game is simple. That's not my priority. But I'm glad and happy we got a lead with that goal."
The Panthers got one goal back with 4:22 left in the opening stanza. Kopecky chipped in a loose puck in the crease to make it 2-1.
Boston scored on the power play in the early stages of the middle stanza. Paille's shot from the high slot was slightly blocked and the puck went right to Kelly, who found the back of the net.
Florida had a four-minute power play spanning the end of the second period and the start of the third, but failed to capitalize.
Paille's empty-net goal with 1:37 remaining accounted for the final margin.
