Flames try to stay hot in Minnesota
Feb 26, 2013 - 4:20 PM (Sports Network) - The Calgary Flames take aim at their first three-game winning streak of the season on Tuesday evening as they look to beat the Minnesota Wild for the second time in four days. The Flames have won consecutive games for only the second time this season, following up a victory over the Wild with Sunday's 5-4 triumph versus the Phoenix Coyotes. Jarome Iginla's second goal of the game tied things with 1:23 left in regulation and Curtis Glencross put home the game-winner 23 seconds later.
Mike Cammalleri and Tim Jackman also scored and Joey MacDonald came up with 23 saves for Calgary, which has followed up two straight losses with back-to-back home wins.
"When you get a win like that, late in the game, it's huge for the mental part of the game," said Glencross, who also had an assist to surpass 200 career points.
Calgary also hope that Sunday's game serves as a spark to Iginla, who had scored just once in the first 16 games of the season.
"It was a wacky game with a lot of different things. ... It felt great as a team to find a way not only to tie it but to see (Glencross) win it right before regulation was great," said Iginla.
The Wild have been out of action since Saturday's 3-1 loss in Calgary. That defeat snapped Minnesota's two-game winning streak.
Matt Stajan scored twice in the third period for the Flames, getting the game- winner at the 7:19 mark of the frame before sealing things with an empty- netter.
Charlie Coyle had the Wild's only goal and Niklas Backstrom made 24 saves.
"We started turning it into a bit of a track meet, going back and forth and never turned it around from there," Minnesota coach Mike Yeo said.
Wild forward Cal Clutterbuck did not play due to a thigh injury suffered on Friday versus the Edmonton Oilers and he is not expected to play in this game either. Clutterbuck took a knee from the Oilers' Taylor Hall, who was suspended for two games.
Alex Tanguay also scored for the Flames versus the Wild and MacDonald made 30 stops as Calgary moved to 5-0-2 in its past seven against Minnesota.
