Bruins keep rolling by edging Lightning
Mar 2, 2013 - 10:35 PM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Brad Marchand scored the game-winner with 2:16 left to play to give the Boston Bruins a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley also scored, while Anton Khudobin stopped 20 shots for the Bruins, who are on a six-game winning streak.
"Our guys that haven't scored much are starting to come around," said Peverley. "Hopefully this will lead to them getting more."
Steven Stamkos and Alexander Killorn each lit the lamp for the Lightning, who have dropped their past four games. Mathieu Garon posted 24 saves in the loss.
Boston had rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie it in the second period then went ahead on the power play after a high-sticking double-minor to Brendan Mikkelson.
After Stamkos had missed the net on a shot at the other end, the puck came all the way out and Patrice Bergeron picked it up for a 2-on-1 the other way. From the right circle, Bergeron slipped it over to the left where Marchand fired home a wrister for a 3-2 lead.
Tampa got Garon out of the net for an extra attacker late in the game, but was unable to net the equalizer.
The first goal of the game went to the Lightning on the power play when Teddy Purcell sent a pass from the left circle to the low left side where Stamkos one-timed it in at the 5:32 mark of the first.
A little over three minutes later, Tampa made it a 2-0 game as Purcell sent a short pass from the slot over to his left and Killorn got to the net before slipping in a backhand for another power-play goal.
Boston made it a 2-1 game at the 3:22 mark of the second with a power-play goal of its own. David Krejci sent a pass from the right circle to the high slot where Dougie Hamilton one-touched it over to the left circle for a one- timer by Seguin.
The Bruins then tied the game just 1:17 later after Adam McQuaid's pass from the right point over to the left circle saw Peverley one-time it home for his third of the season.
