Sharks sneak past Predators

Mar 3, 2013 - 7:22 AM San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Dan Boyle and Joe Pavelski tallied in the San Jose Sharks' 2-1 win over the Nashville Predators.

Joe Thornton and Logan Couture added two assists apiece for the Sharks, who had dropped 10 of their previous 12 games coming in after a 7-0 start.

"We had been struggling. We got to find a way to get back into this thing (standings)," Boyle said.

Antti Niemi stopped 18-of-19 shots in the win.

Gabriel Bourque scored for Nashville, which has lost six of its last eight contests.

Pekka Rinne made 37 stops in the setback.

The Sharks netted a power-play goal in each of the first two periods. Boyle's one-time slap shot from the high point got San Jose on the board with just over two minutes left in the first and the hosts struck again midway through the second when Pavelski wristed one by Rinne.

"The two penalties we took were unneccesary and we didn't kill them," Preds head coach Barry Trotz said.

Bourque's short-handed goal put Nashville on the board with 5:30 to play, but Niemi stood strong in the net down the stretch to preserve the victory for San Jose.
