Bruins host Flyers in matinee

Mar 9, 2013 - 4:13 PM (Sports Network) - The Boston Bruins were finally able to hold a lead and snap a two-game losing streak last time out.

The Philadelphia Flyers were not as fortunate.

The Bruins look to win for the eighth time in 10 games and hand the Flyers a third straight setback when the two teams meet on Saturday afternoon in Boston.

Riding just their second two-game skid of the season, and first since mid- February, the Bruins picked up a 4-2 home win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.

Tyler Seguin and David Krejci both scored in the second period to put Boston up by two goals, but Toronto made it a one-goal game with 5:08 to play. However, Anton Khudobin made 25 saves in the win and Seguin capped the scoring with an empty-net tally.

Seguin also assisted on Patrice Bergeron's first-period goal for a Bruins club that blew a one-goal lead in the third period in a loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday before failing to hold a 3-0 edge versus the Washington Capitals in Tuesday's overtime setback.

"I was a little nervous once they scored that one in the third with how the last few games have gone, but we bore down and walked away with two points," Seguin said.

The win put the Bruins a point back of the Canadiens for first place in the Northeast Division and pushed Boston's home record to 7-2-1 on the season.

The Flyers, meanwhile, had won five of seven to get to .500 before losing a 4-2 decision to the New York Rangers on Tuesday. They then dropped another contest to an Atlantic Division rival, falling 5-4 to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins despite four first-period goals.

Jakub Voracek had a pair of goals, Kimmo Timonen had a goal and two assists, while Zac Rinaldo had a goal and an assist for Philadelphia, which outshot Pittsburgh 18-4 in the first period but had just three shots in the second. That helped the Pens tie the game after 40 minutes and they put home the winner just 18 seconds into the third period.

"I didn't think they (the Penguins) were talked about after the first period," Flyers forward Scott Hartnell said. "The Pittsburgh Penguins aren't going to sit back and hand over two points, they're going to come hard. Before you know it's 4-4; we just can't do that. It's embarrassing to the fans and it's embarrassing to one another. We let another two points slip away."

Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 12-of-16 shots for the Flyers before being pulled late in the second period. Brian Boucher turned aside five of the six shots he faced in relief.

Voracek stayed hot by logging at least a point for the ninth time in his last 10 games. He has nine goals and 10 assists over that span.

The Flyers will next try to avoid their third three-game slide of the season, but have lost eight of their past 10 versus the Bruins. Each of the last two defeats have come in a shootout.
