Canucks slip by Blue Jackets in SO
Mar 13, 2013 - 4:10 AM Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Mason Raymond notched the lone goal of the shootout, as Vancouver slipped by Columbus, 2-1, at Nationwide Arena."In the shootout, it's about getting a save or two from your goaltender and hoping that one of your guys can put it in," Vancouver head coach Alain Vigneault said. "Mason did a real great move, and it was a nice win for us."
Jason Garrison scored in regulation and Roberto Luongo made 26 saves for the Canucks, who ended a four-game losing skid.
Mark Letestu tallied and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 37 pucks for the Blue Jackets, who had their five-game win streak halted.
To start the third and final round, Raymond skated in at an angle on the right-wing side, cut into the slot, and did a 180-degree turn -- spraying Bobrovsky as he stopped -- before sliding a backhander into the net.
"I have looked at it and I guarantee you that if you ask them (the Canucks), they're going to say it was good," Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards said. "To me, it looks a little questionable. It looks like he does take a step backward. It looks like the puck is moving backward."
Letestu needed to score to keep the game alive, but Luongo prevented him from shooting with a poke check.
Letestu potted his own rebound in front to give the Jackets a 1-0 lead with 3:04 played in the second period.
Just after a power play expired, Vancouver knotted the game on a screened shot by Garrison from the right wing with 3:49 left in the frame.
Late in regulation, Bobrovsky was briefly felled by the butt end of Canucks center Henrik Sedin's stick, which invaded the space between the bars in his mask but caused no visible damage.
