Bruins try to get on track vs. struggling Flyers

Mar 30, 2013 - 12:39 PM (Sports Network) - The Boston Bruins will try to get back in the win column on Saturday, as they visit a struggling Philadelphia Flyers club in an afternoon battle at Wells Fargo Center.

The Bruins, who have lost two of three and four of their last six games, dropped a wild shootout decision Wednesday against visiting Montreal. The Canadiens earned a 6-5 win and moved one point in front of Boston for first place in the Northeast Division.

Montreal won Wednesday's showdown in the sixth round of the shootout, as Brendan Gallagher ended the contest by slipping his shot through the pads of Tuukka Rask.

Boston held two-goal leads on two occasions but the Canadiens rallied to push the game to overtime, eventually tying the game on Andrei Markov's marker with 8.2 seconds left in regulation.

Patrice Bergeron registered a goal and three assists for the Bruins. Tyler Seguin added a score and two helpers, Brad Marchand and Nathan Horton also lit the lamp, but Rask allowed five goals on 28 shots in the setback.

"It was nice to see us score some goals," Bruins coach Claude Julien said, "but, unfortunately, we couldn't keep it out of our net."

Boston, which is beginning a two-game road trip tonight and is 10-5-2 as the guest this season, has won four straight, six of seven and nine of its last 11 meetings with the Flyers.

The Bruins also have claimed five in a row and nine of their last 10 games in Philly.

The Flyers, meanwhile, have lost four straight and eight of their last 10 games and are running out of time to make the playoffs. Philadelphia, which hasn't missed the postseason since 2007, is 14th out of 15 teams in the East and is six points out of a playoff spot.

On Thursday, Philadelphia lost to the New York Islanders for just the fifth time in 34 meetings. The 4-3 shootout decision also marked the Isles' third victory in their last 17 road games against the Flyers.

Josh Bailey scored the winner in the fourth round of the shootout to lift New York to Thursday's win. After Wayne Simmonds was stopped by Evgeni Nabokov, Bailey won the game for the Islanders as he buried a wrist shot past Ilya Bryzgalov.

Scott Hartnell had two goals and Mike Knuble scored the other for the Flyers, who are on their longest losing streak of the season and they haven't lost five in a row since an 0-3-2 slide from March 31 to April 8, 2011.

"It sure seems like a loss right now," said Hartnell after the Flyers blew a two-goal lead en route to Thursday's setback.

Bryzgalov turned away 33 shots in his 31st start in 33 games for Philadelphia this season.

The Flyers will have a thin blue line on Saturday, as Braydon Coburn joins fellow defensemen Nicklas Grossmann and Andrej Meszaros on the sideline. Philadelphia recalled Oliver Lauridsen from its AHL affiliate in Adirondack. The 6-foot-6 Lauridsen, a seventh-round draft pick by the Flyers in 2009, is expected to make his NHL debut against the Bruins.

Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk is questionable for Saturday after sitting out the last three games with a bruised right foot.
