Alex Goligoski had a goal and an assist for the Stars, who are three points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Antoine Roussel and Loui Eriksson also scored.
"Our work ethic was there as it has been for a while now so it's always good to see," Goligoski said. Brown put home a rebound from the left side to make it 3-3 at the 2:59 mark of the third period.
With less than a minute to play in overtime, Richards' shot deflected off Carter and past Lehtonen to give Los Angeles the victory.

At the 4:12 mark of the middle stanza, Brown's wrist shot from a sharp angle made it 2-0.
