Final
Ducks top Canucks
Apr 26, 2013 - 7:01 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Jonas Hiller stopped 28 shots to help the Anaheim Ducks take a 3-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. This game had no meaning for either team as both clubs are locked into their playoff seed. Anaheim holds the second spot in the Western Conference thanks to winning the Pacific Division, while Northwest-champion Vancouver sits third in the conference.
"We did a great job of being in front and blocking shots. We were doing the things you need to do to win," Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau said.
Andrew Cogliano, Brad Staubitz and Matt Beleskey each had a goal for the Ducks, who have won three straight.
Jason Garrison scored the only goal of the game for the Canucks, who had a two-game winning streak stopped. Roberto Luongo gave up two goals on 29 shots in the loss.
"It is my job to make the saves, unfortunately you can make one mistake and the game is kind of ruined," Luongo said.
After a scoreless first period, the Ducks went on top with a pair of goals in the second stanza.
Skating on the power play, Cam Fowler sent a shot on net from the left point that Beleskey, providing a screen in front, tipped past Luongo for his eighth goal of the season at 6:44.
Less than two minutes later, it was a 2-0 game as Staubitz let fly with a shot from the right wing that fooled Luongo for his first goal of the season.
The Canucks cut their deficit in half with 3:18 to play while on a 5-on-3 advantage. Ryan Kesler took a pass at the right point and skated over to the slot before sending it back to his right where Garrison one-timed it home.
They couldn't get any closer, though, and Cogliano decided the outcome with the empty-netter in the final minute.
