Rangers return home to battle Bruins in Game 3

May 21, 2013 - 2:53 PM (Sports Network) - The New York Rangers will try to get on the board in the Eastern Conference semifinals when they host the Boston Bruins in Tuesday's Game 3 at Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers lost both Games 1 and 2 in Boston, dropping the opener in overtime before getting clobbered by a 5-2 score in Sunday's meeting.

New York hopes a return home for Games 3 and 4 can get the club back into this best-of-seven series. The Rangers went 3-0 on home ice in the first round to help them defeat Washington and they were 16-6-2 at MSG during the regular season.

Boston went 2-1 in Toronto during its seven-game series win over the Maple Leafs in the conference quarterfinals. The Bruins were 12-9-3 as the visiting team during the regular season.

Rick Nash's first goal of the postseason tied the score for New York at 2-2 early in the second period on Sunday, but the Bruins received three unanswered markers from Johnny Boychuk, Brad Marchand and Milan Lucic to skate away with the win.

Boychuk gave Boston a lead with 7:52 left in the second period and Marchand made it 4-2 just 26 seconds into the third. Lucic's goal accounted for the final margin with 7:21 left in the game.

Marchand added an assist in the triumph. Torey Krug also delivered a goal and an assist for Boston and Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci each contributed a pair of helpers.

Tuukka Rask turned aside 35 shots to outshine counterpart Henrik Lundqvist, who stopped just 27-of-32 chances as the Rangers fell to 1-5 on the road in these playoffs.

"We gave it to them," a dejected Lundqvist said afterward.

Lundqvist is dealing with an injured left shoulder, but it's not something that will keep him out of Tuesday's contest.

New York, which also fell into an 0-2 hole before rallying to top Washington in seven games in the opening round, will attempt to begin another comeback when the series shifts to Madison Square Garden for Game 3. However, no NHL team has ever won consecutive series after losing the first two games.

Meanwhile, Boston has gone 21-7 in its previous best-of-seven series in which it jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

In addition to Nash's first goal of the playoffs, captain Ryan Callahan notched his second goal of the postseason for New York. But, the Rangers went 0-for-5 on the power play in Sunday's loss and are now 2-for-36 with the man advantage in the playoffs.

New York has failed to score on 19 consecutive power-play opportunities.

"We made coverage mistakes," Rangers head coach John Tortorella said. "We can't put it in the net. We had multiple chances."

Boston has played the first two games of this series without defensemen Andrew Ference, Wade Redden and Dennis Seidenberg, all of whom are battling injuries. However, Seidenberg and Redden made the trip to New York and are both questionable for Tuesday's contest.

Game 4 is scheduled for Thursday at MSG.
