Oilers go for third straight win against Canucks

Oct 16, 2006 - 2:38 PM Edmonton (3-1-0) at Vancouver (2-2-1) 10:00 pm EDT

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- The Edmonton Oilers were nearly perfect when facing the Vancouver Canucks last season. They try to continue that trend Monday in the opener of a home-and-home series.

The Oilers, who have won two straight, went 6-1-1 against the Canucks during the 2005-06 campaign.

Edmonton is coming off a 4-3 victory over Colorado on Saturday. Goaltender Dwayne Roloson made 39 saves en route to earning his 100th career win. Ryan Smyth scored the tying goal late in the second period and go-ahead tally early in the third.

Smyth has scored five times in the last two games for the Oilers, who were outshot, 42-25, by the Avalanche.

Vancouver dropped its third straight contest, 6-4, to San Jose on Friday. Markus Naslund and Daniel Sedin tallied and Roberto Luongo turned away 31 shots for the Canucks, who are 1-for-15 on the power play during their slide.

The two teams conclude their series in Edmonton on Tuesday.
