Flyers aim for third straight win in home test with Ducks

Oct 29, 2013 - 3:01 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Following their best offensive showing of the young season, the Philadelphia Flyers aim for a third straight victory on Tuesday night as they host the Anaheim Ducks.

The Flyers failed to score more than two goals in any of their first nine games this season -- held to 13 goals in that span -- though that was still enough to snap a four-game slide with a 2-1 win over the New York Rangers last Thursday.

Philadelphia finally broke through offensively on Saturday versus the New York Islanders, netting three goals in the first period alone on the way to a 5-2 victory that featured Vincent Lecavalier's seventh career hat trick.

Lecavalier posted his first three-goal game since March 11, 2008 with Tampa Bay, while Jakub Voracek and Matt Read also scored. Steve Mason made 26 saves as Philly won back-to-back games for the first time this season.

"We have to keep pushing, try to go on a streak here and just keep playing the same way," said Lecavalier.

Despite the win, head coach Craig Berube is still expected to alter his roster a bit tonight. Defenseman Andrej Meszaros has been a healthy scratch in each of the last five games, but is slated to replace Erik Gustafsson in the lineup versus the Ducks.

Anaheim comes into this game 2-2-0 on an eight-game, 15-day road trip. The Ducks picked up a 4-3 win over Columbus on Sunday, but did lose another player to injury in the process.

Saku Koivu exited with a head injury after taking a high hit from the Blue Jackets' Brandon Dubinsky in the second period. He did not return to the game and has returned to Anaheim for further evaluation.

The Ducks are already playing without Jakob Silfverberg (broken right hand), Dustin Penner (concussion) and Mathieu Perreault (left wrist) due to injury.

Corey Perry put home the game-winner in Sunday's victory with 2:25 to play. He also had an assist, while Ryan Getzlaf, Emerson Etem and Peter Holland also scored.

Frederik Anderson made 18 saves, getting the win after Perry controlled a bouncing puck and faked a shot before lifting the puck past Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.

"One of those ones where it takes a weird hop and comes right to me," Perry said.

The Flyers snapped a three-game losing streak to the Ducks with a 4-3 overtime victory in Anaheim on Dec. 2, 2011 in the last meeting. These clubs are meeting in Philadelphia for first time since Oct. 21, 2010.
