Ducks keep Sabres winless at home
Nov 3, 2013 - 4:47 AM Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Perry and Emerson Etem both scored two goals in the Anaheim Ducks' 6-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.Ryan Getzlaf added a goal and two assists and Sami Vatanen also scored for the Ducks, winners in four of their last five games. Jonas Hiller made 14 saves in the win.
Cody Hodgson, Henrik Tallinder and Tyler Myers scored one goal apiece for the Sabres, who have fallen to 0-8-1 at home this season. Jhonas Enroth allowed all six goals on 29 shots.
"It isn't so much looking at a specific guy or a specific play. We have to figure out the areas that will give us more possession time and more time in the offensive zone," said Myers.
Down 1-0, Anaheim scored three unanswered goals before the end of the second period to make it 3-1 and five in a row overall to assume control.
"It took us about a period to get going. Its frustrating. Obviously I am happy with our effort after that first period to get back into the hockey game. We had a will to win," said Getzlaf.
Getzlaf lit the lamp with his sixth tally of the season just shy of the midway point of the period. Dustin Penner used a nifty pass to find Getzlaf, who ripped one past Enroth to tie things up.
Vatanen's wrister at the 15:18 mark put the Ducks on top and Etem scored 34 seconds later to make it a two-goal game.
On the former, Andrew Cogliano handled the puck along the left boards, quickly stopped and dropped a pass back for Vatanen, who blasted a wrister into the net. The latter saw Mathieu Perreault center a pass to Etem for his first goal of the contest.
Anaheim added to its lead in the third on tallies just 39 seconds apart. With 4:50 played, Perry potted his first tally of the game, and Etem blasted a slapshot into the net moments later for a 5-1 advantage.
Tallinder and Myers scored their first goals of the season to cut the deficit to 5-3, but the hosts had nothing else in the tank.
Perry's second goal of the game, coming 39 seconds after Buffalo's last goal, accounted for the final difference.
Hodgson opened up the scoring with his power play maker 7:15 into the middle session. Matt Moulson found Hodgson in front on the net, and the forward stuffed home his fifth goal of the season.
