Peverly leads Stars past Bruins
Nov 6, 2013 - 6:38 AM Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Rich Peverley scored in the fourth round of the shootout as the Dallas Stars took a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday. In the fourth round after David Krejci shot wide of the net, Peverley skated in on net and buried a wrister between the pads of Tuukka Rask for the win.
Jamie Benn and Vernon Fiddler scored the goals in regulation, while Kari Lehtonen made 34 saves for the Stars, who have won their past two.
"I think we all know they have a lot of big strong guys over there," said Peverley. "We don't want to get into the physical battles with them, but we have four good lines that can skate and we used that to our advantage tonight."
Milan Lucic and Torey Krug scored for the Bruins, who have lost four of their past five games. Rask turned aside 34 shots.
"Not to take anything away from them but I like to think we're a better team than we showed tonight," said Boston head coach Claude Julien. "We just didn't play hard tonight and gave them that win."
Dallas got on the board at 3:38 of the first period as Benn got the puck at the right boards and from the circle he snapped a shot into the net for his fifth of the season.
It took just 38 seconds for the Bruins to tie the game, as a turnover in the Dallas end saw Krug eventually get the puck in the slot and fire home a one- timer for his fifth goal of the season.
With the score tied in the third, Boston controlled the puck for a long sequence in the Dallas end and finally broke through on Lucic's seventh of the season.
Krejci had the puck in the left corner boards and sent a pass to the high slot for Dougie Hamilton, who fired a shot on net that was redirected by Lucic parked in front of the net.
Dallas, though, was able to tie the game as Fiddler was awarded a penalty shot with 2:34 to play as he was hauled down on a breakaway by Dennis Seidenberg.
On the free shot, Fiddler deked to the backhand and was able to lift the puck under the crossbar to tie the contest.
