Jets shoot for rare win in Detroit

Nov 12, 2013 - 4:08 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Winnipeg Jets aim for their first three-game winning streak of the season on Tuesday night as they look for a rare victory in Detroit over the Red Wings.

The Jets have won two in a row for the first time since beginning the season 2-0 and are coming off Sunday's shootout victory over the San Jose Sharks.

Andrew Ladd played the hero, scoring a game-tying goal with less than two minutes left in regulation before netting the only tally of the shootout in a 5-4 win.

Grant Clitsome had a goal and a pair of assists, while Dustin Byfuglien and Michael Frolik also lit the lamp. Ondrej Pavelec made 30 stops.

"It's a big win, the way we won. We battled back with a late goal," Ladd said. "Pavs made some big saves for us and we had some key goals from a lot of different guys."

Winnipeg also caught a break when Patrick Marleau's goal with two minutes left in overtime was waved off after it was ruled San Jose's Tommy Wingels interfered with Pavelec.

The Jets have won three of their last four games overall, a span that includes a 4-2 home victory over the Red Wings on Nov. 4. Matt Halischuk had the winning goal, while Frolik and Ladd also tallied.

Al Montoya got the start for Winnipeg that day and made 26 saves in the franchise's third victory in its past four meetings with the Red Wings.

However, the Jets have lost six of their eight all-time games played in Detroit.

Henrik Zetterberg and Danny Dekeyser scored versus the Jets and Jimmy Howard allowed all four goals on 47 shots faced.

Zetterberg scored twice in Saturday's meeting with Tampa Bay, but Howard allowed three goals on 34 shots faced in a 3-2 setback. The third goal yielded came with 69 seconds left in overtime.

It marked the Red Wings' first home loss to the Lightning since Jan. 12, 1994.

"We have to be way more efficient. We're a better team than we played today," Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock said.

Detroit has lost three in a row, including the past two in overtime, but may get forward Johan Franzen back in the lineup for this game. Franzen has missed five of the last six games due to a combination of illness and an upper-body issue.

Howard gave up all four goals in the earlier loss to the Jets and is 1-3-0 with a 3.50 goals against average in five career starts against the franchise.

Pavelec could get the start for Winnipeg and is 2-1-0 with a 2.98 GAA and one shutout in three previous encounters with the Red Wings.
