Pirri leads Blackhawks over Coyotes in SO

Nov 15, 2013 - 6:56 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Brandon Pirri tied the game in the third period and scored the deciding goal in the shootout to lift the Chicago Blackhawks over the Phoenix Coyotes, 5-4.

Marian Hossa, Brandon Saad and Patrick Sharp also scored for the Blackhawks, who have won four straight games. Corey Crawford made 26 saves.

After the game, Chicago acquired forwards Kris Versteeg and Phillippe Lefebrve from the Florida Panthers for forward Jimmy Hayes and defenseman Dylan Olsen. Versteeg won a Cup with Chicago in 2010.

Michael Stone had two goals for the Coyotes, who had a two-game winning streak snapped. Shane Doan and Lauri Korpikoski added one goal apiece.

Mike Smith stopped 48-of-52 shots in defeat.

"You have to fight hard against a team like that in their own arena," said Smith. "The guys did a good job of sticking with it and give us a point on the road."

Pirri lit the lamp three minutes into the third period to make it a 4-4 game. Brent Seabrook's shot from the top of the right circle was deflected in by Pirri.

The shootout was tied 1-1 heading into the fourth round after Jonathan Toews and Radim Vrbata scored for their respective teams. Pirri's wrister trickled past Smith and Crawford stopped Mike Ribeiro.

"The was my first one up here," said Pirri about his shootout attempt and score. "I just wanted to get him moving because he's a big guy and tried to find a hole."

Saad put home his own rebound 2:37 into the game. Sharp made it 2-0 at the 6:22 mark on a blast from the point.

Stone cut the deficit in half at the 7:03 mark when his shot from the right point deflected off Pirri's stick and past Crawford.

Hossa gave Chicago the lead back at the 5:05 mark of the middle stanza. He jammed home his own rebound after a shot from the top of the left circle.
